Matt, this may be a Lifehacker issue, but shouldn't you put links to the four previous articles in this last one? I would love to read them, but I don't want to have to search for them (search bites on this site now) and I'm on limited bandwidth (wireless) so I don't like having to page through previous days/weeks

Just remember that this program only works if you have a copy of the router config file already saved to your PC. In order to get that file saved from the router, you have to log into the router. With a password. Which you don't have. :)

@joe.glass: Sure, leave it on! That's what many Mac users do with drives set up for Time Machine or CrashPlan. Obviously the drive will last longer if it's off, but if there's good airflow into and out of the case then you should be fine. If you've got an enclosure made of plastic and it doesn't have much in the way

@UnderLoK: Cool. I hope the Geekz remember to back it up first. Oh, right, they charge for that! ;)

I'm all about trying it out. 3.0.1 was faster to load on my 2.6GHz MBP than Word 2008. However, I'm having a terrible time finding an english download in the US. The torrent list doesn't even HAVE an english version showing for OS X.

Pentax DSLRs are also able to use old lenses, but without an adapter ring! Just look for lenses with a K mount (standard for early '80s on) or M42 mount (older, needs a cheap adapter). You may lose auto focus or auto exposure, but if you're ready to exert more control over your pics, this is a great way to save big

@undefined: Well, you're not being too specific about your system, only that it's slowing down. That's not maintenance-related, necessarily. Applied any updates lately which may have set this slowness off? Check out "Activity Monitor" in your /Applications/Utilities folder to see if you have hung apps or processes

I run a dialup server at my house... >:P Old HP Pavilion, Cel433 with a 160GB HDD running XP Pro and Kerio WinRoute to act as a dialup gateway, swap space for files, and that's about it.

LifeHackered. :) Maybe later...

This may be a good replacement for BurnAware Free, which isn't free any longer. I used to drop that app on all new PCs I set up for friends; I'll have to give this a spin.

Figures, I can't get it to find gas prices for any of seven different ZIPs I've tried around Michigan... {rolleyes}

Wow. I'm actually excited to get home tonight to play with this on my old PC (which I still keep around because I don't want the hassle of migrating all that data to my VMware Fusion image). I've got multiple accounts in both Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird on there, and the ability to search among the archives from a

It's offensive to me because the dang color changes with every desktop pic I change to. If EVERY window had this translucency, like Vista, then it wouldn't be nearly as unbearable, but I think Jon Stokes at ArsTechnica sums it up quite nicely here:

Is anyone else having problems getting this to work? Dragged it to my Apps folder, started it up, and it doesn't do anything at all. It's showing in Activity Monitor, though. Changed the Desktop pic per the instructions, still nothing... grrrr...

[www.resellerratings.com] — More tech oriented, but this is a great site for getting the low-down on an online reseller, and they've been around for years. Of note is that you'll get to read the opinions of people who've had both good and bad experiences, and often you'll also see the reseller responses to bad ones.

On the Mac, I just use Yasu (free) or Cocktail (shareware). If OS X is seemingly hosed, try booting in Safe Mode (hold the Shift key down until you get to the login screen or desktop) and run one of these apps. I like Yasu, but make sure you download the right one (version available for Panther as well as Tiger
