Regina King was nominated! Yes. I had a personal stake in that one, as I had threatened to riot if she wasn’t.

Yeah, but it wasn’t the script as much as the acting. Anya Chalotra is maybe replaceable, but Henry Cavill is an A-lister, and was stellar at delivering a script that I’m not sure was nearly as good on paper.
Have you watched the latest season of Westworld, from Person of Interest producer Jonathan Nolan? Because it 100% the show he wanted to make with Person of Interest.
Netflix seems to have really misunderstood what people liked about The Witcher (hint: it’s in the title of the show). Henry Cavill’s deadpan “fuck” missives and nut kicks were 9/10 of what made that show fun to watch. Other 1/10 was Anya Chalotra, who was impressively charismatic in her role. Both she and Cavill are…
I’ve watched every Columbo episode except that one — for sentimental reasons I won’t get into, I didn’t want to run out of episodes to watch. But I have it downloaded and was able to check whether this is correct. It is. Lead guest star: Matty Rhys.
CBS procedurals basically advertise themselves based on their channel and timeslot. There’s a really reliable audience of people (mostly very old people) who will watch procedurals until the day they die, and CBS has nailed the formula, the way Frito Lay has nailed the formula for chips with Doritos. Basically no…
I think the shotgun is because that guy is a loose end for Ennis (could be the guy who hired him, though that would mean that there’s no twist about it being someone else we’ve already been dealing with, like the DA). His body language was not that he was planning to shoot Mason.
As someone who grew up watching Columbo (whenever I could find it on TV, I’m not old enough to have watched it new), the benefit of giving away the villain is that you can explore the character, and have scenes alone with the character, much more freely then if you were protecting a twist about their role in the…
The panels give structure to the event, and the speakers can be incredibly engaging. I saw William Shatner and Leondard Nemoy speak together on a panel, and seeing the camaraderie that they still had was touching. That certainly is also true of the TNG cast, to the extent that it tends to shine through even in video…
As much as I enjoy her in this show, I wouldn’t want her tied down with it. Her incredible range is my favourite thing about her. She’s got the resume to get into film or more prestige drama guest roles. I’d loooove to see her sink her teeth into a role in a Knives Out 2, for example.
I’ve never heard of Reductress. It seems like a wannabe Onion. Where is the corporate synergy, AV Club?
The theater environment in my local theater when I went a few years ago was great, too (Anaconda, maybe?). A really fun time.
Their Twilight riffs are what drew me into their website in the first place. Every one of them is brilliant. Watched the whole stupid series solely for the riffs (the first in the series is dreadfully boring and bad, the remainder are more “good-bad”, still stupid but faster paced and ridiculous in fun ways).
The bigger red flag might have been that the coffee beans were being shipped from Medellin.
I’d say it’s an extraordinarily effective publicity shot from Netflix, at least on me. It sells me on watching the first episode with zero additional info. She looks bombin’.
I’ve been working through the back catalog over the past few weeks, as I picked it up on a crossover with my longtime fave, The Flop House (which was once upon a time featured in this spot on the AV Club). I didn’t expect to be engaged by a sincerely critical movie review podcast, but the narratives of the director…
I just about fell off the couch laughing. The funniest sex scene I can remember watching.
There is a phenomenon — not specific to Star Wars — of someone relatively unknown introducing themselves to the world with a memorable and recurring role in a multi-year franchise. That role becomes the only thing for which the actor is known, by default, and then they have some work to do break themselves out of that…
I’m not sure I feel the same way as a rule, but white definitely has durability issues. You can imagine that an aged PS5's will be hued yellow, and scuffed with gunk, not nearly so crisp and clean as the 3D render in the original reveal.
Just when I think Jim Carrey’s book couldn’t get any less interesting, Jeff Daniels goes and does something like this, AND TOTALLY REDEEMS IT.
