Did Marc Maron tweet “WTF?” to the Variety story? Because they really teed it up for him.

I think in the same way that The Room is a cult classic. It’s “good bad” in the lingo of The Flophouse Podcast, but it’s still bad.

This is pretty weird, for a few reasons.

I upvoted for the interesting context on the political dynamics between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV, but I don’t buy that Perlumutter is single-handedly responsible for the creative failures of Marvel TV shows. We want him to be responsible because he’s the biggest asshat, but I find it hard to fathom that he has

The fight choreography was really good.

Truly.

I was struggling to place myself in that time frame to remember what pop culture thing I was really engrossed with, but this has brought the memories flooding back. I was obsessed with Austin Powers. I bought the soundtrack to Spy Who Shagged Me. I memorized the lines to the Dr. Evil / Mini Me version of Just The Two

When I looked at that screen cap from 10 Things, my immediate reaction was, “Is that Heath Ledger, or is that Joseph Gordon Levitt?”. Reading on did not answer my question, as apparently they’re both in the movie.

Proteins that are generated biologically like this are extracted by drowning the cells in a detergent and separating out their component parts through centrifuges and/or high pressure liquid chromotagraphy. The cells don’t survive, and don’t come anywhere near the food itself - just the extracted protein, and

You’re suffering from anti-science paranoia that I suspect is pretty deeply rooted, and which I don’t expect to be able to dispel--but I’ll try anyways.

Yeah, these are not health foods, and their basic nutritional information makes pretty clear that they are not health foods. Their green “plant” branding may plant that seed that they are relatively healthy in people’s heads (perhaps on purpose), but I think Beyond Meat and Impossible have both been pretty careful to

Wow, holy fuck, I was making a series of totally random points, thank you for revealing to me that they actually had a relationship to one another. What an ironic and hilarious coincidence. The GIF was key too, because I’m not good with words, and that emotionless head tilt was what I needed to piece it all together.

and probably had the same if not worse ecological impact from is manufacturing process.

This is not a good summary. The “less calories” and “costs the same” points are accurate enough, but it is vegan, and the article expressly describes that this could easily be confused for a beef burger, and estimates that 9 out of 10 would be just as happy with it as a beef burger.

So happy to see another fantastic piece from John Teti. I sorely miss his delightful writing. I still frequent the A.V. Club for the pop culture news updates and the discussion/jokes in the comments, but—with the exception of the film reviews from A.A. and Ignatiy—nothing brings me the pure joy of the articles we used

Damn. I was really hoping for a  2 Eternal 2 Sunshine 2 Spotless 2 Mind

[...] a good Papa Roach song

I was confused that you were referring to the codec DivX, until I looked it up and realized that there was also a “rental” concept sold by Circuit City that was also called DIVX. They sold proprietary (never a good start) disc players that played proprietary (uh oh) rental discs, and authorized purchases through a phon

If we think more broadly about bio-pics, and which ones worked well, a highlight that comes to mind is Will Smith as Ali. And I don’t think anyone could have foreseen Will Smith’s big personality (especially circa 2001) vanishing into any role. Then he got nominated for a best actor Oscar. It was a combination of good
