@madisondj: I2C is maximum 3.4Mbits per second. This is 940Mbps and is explained as a time division duplex and multiplex design that carries both power and signal. Besides, I doubt they could patent a I2C bus since the patent once belonged to phillips/NXP and has since lapsed in 2006.

@Jesse Scroggins: Some companies entire business revolved around the canon SDK for point and shoot cameras. The G10 was the last of its kind along with the SX110IS. Seriously, no other manufacturer has an SDK for a point and shoot camera since olympus discontinued in mid 2005 and Canon discontinued after G10.
