Just because someone is known to have been “skewering racists and supporting progressive, tolerant non-profs”, doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t or are incapable of, intentionally or unintentionally, making racist commentary or jokes still.
Y’all are really going through some real mental gymnastics on this.
I went to school in Maryland and had similar experiences. While I too could differentiate between malicious racism and “joking” racism, it still was racism at my, your, her expense, no matter how blatant or subtle. In fact it’s the subtle racism (and sexism) that’s the most insidious.
Goddamnit, why the fuck are some people even trying to justify this? This is not acceptable, even if an Asian person wasn’t present.

DiCaprio, at worst, from what I’ve read, is only guilty of being a selfish lover (he vapes and listens to music with headphones as you ride him). While not the best behavior while mid stride, certainly far and away from being anything close to sexual harassment or sexual assault.
I’m including his lawyers and PR team and whoever was actively working to make this go away.
