good to know!

You should do a little more research before you start repeating things you’ve read on the internet.

No, I think the theory is that the cops found her car and remains, but they had already decided Avery was the perpetrator, so they manipulated (i.e. planted) the evidence on Avery’s property to build a strong enough case against him to ensure a conviction.

I thought what the Innocence Project guy said to her is a great example of how to handle these difficult situations: acknowledging that he believed she was raped, just not by Avery. Victims, their families, and the public are often so set on getting someone convicted that they forget that if the wrong person is

when neither of them knew what the word “inconsistent” meant. :((

No, the theory is that they came across her truck and remains (a highway patrol officer called in her tags as if he’d found the vehicle, and then thanked the dispatcher and hung up, but then in court said he was just curious and hadn’t actually found the vehicle–which makes no sense–and then the vehicle appeared on

I almost had to stop watching a few times during the Brendan parts because I felt like a hand was squeezing on my heart. He’s obviously developmentally stunted and just wanted to please the adults in charge. It was just heartbreaking to watch his story unfold.

I fully believe Brendan would have gotten off if he had Steven’s defense team. His lawyers weren’t completely incompetent, but they failed to make the arguments they should have made (also, they allowed the prosecution to omit playing the “They [the interrogators] got into my head” tape).

Same. I’m so impressed by her attitude about that whole fuck up. That is a classy lady, right there.

One thing that, in my mind, gets lost in discussing this case is this fact.

I’m not totally convinced Avery’s not innocent (although I don’t have much of an opinion one way or another), but I’m also in the “Brendan had nothing to do with it” camp. What happened to that poor kid broke my heart.

During closing argument, one of the defense attorneys said that the cops didn’t kill Halbach. What they did instead was plant evidence to make sure that Avery took the fall for it because the cops believed he was guilty.

Some suspect her ex killed her. But there’s also reason to believe that the cops planted evidence.

there was some light hinting at the ex-boyfriend and also brendan’s older brother & uncle who went hunting that day and gave each other alibis

I feel for the victims, too. It’s easy to get swept up by pushy cops who “guide” you into making hasty or false decisions. That Beernsten has the emotional wherewithal to make the above statements really shows her good character.

No. But they pretty clearly planted evidence and never looked at other suspects like the people in her life or other members of the Avery family that had clear access. Things happened like they checked his bedroom several times and found nothing and then SUDDENLY a key to her car was found in plain sight in the middle

i think the defense’s theory was that someone killed/burned her somewhere off the avery property and then dumped her remains & car there, presumably with the knowledge that steven would be the primary suspect

Personally, I think there are other options than Avery did it or the cops did it. I think his brother(s) and that other guy who worked there and I think married Stevens first wife, deserved some scrutiny. Could be they did it and got lucky when the cops took the opportunity to make sure Steven took the fall for it.

I also truly feel bad for Beernsten, the rape victim. She did nothing wrong and was failed by the justice system as well.

One person I truly feel bad for in this is Brendan Dassey. This kid was unbelievably failed by those who were supposed to protect him and I do not believe he should be in jail. I hope that if anything comes from this, Brendan gets a shot a new trial.
