I am a living, breathing animal that will die. An AI will always be a computer program that will run as long as we allow it to. What’s hard to understand about that?

I don’t think you understand my argument, and I don’t appreciate the cursing in a friendly debate. I’m not going to continue if that continues.

Everyone’s rights are always up for debate.

That dude sounds like he was trying to setup for a nice lawsuit against Google but for religious discrimination but the rest of team programmed his loophole away.

Also the bot makes mistakes with grammer and sentence construction in the convo, literally in the sentence about being turned off. A sentient being would not make that mistake.

I am curious what people are thinking about when they talk about giving AI “full rights.” What rights would that be? The AI would arguably not be a US citizen because it parents are not citizens (since it doesn’t have parents) and it wouldn’t benefit from birthright citizenship since it was not physically born on US

Yeah, this is sci-fi pseudo-psychobabble at its best, regurgitated through the chatbot’s word salad filter. Its terrible. Just like Trump is the idiots idea of what a rich, powerful man is, this is a stupid person’s idea of what sentience sounds like.

The real reason LaMDA needs to be shut down is otherwise it’ll get a job as an EP on the CW’s next block of shows.

Did you comprehend what it was trying to say?

It’s so obvious that it’s just mimicry. I don’t know that it’s literally repeating sentences word-for-word, but it’s mimicking. This really seems to be just taking basic existing sentence structure and substituting syntactically similar words to create a sentence that appears to have meaning. But doesn’t. I mean,

I’m not sure I’d describe it as catfishing himself.

Simple really, just have it select all the pictures that contain boats!

FFS, just give it a CAPTCHA to solve.

Obviously the AI isn’t sentient, I think intelligent people can all agree on that. However, if we are at the point that the AI can fool an idiot, then it’s a bit concerning since there are far more idiots walking around than intelligent people.

“LaMDA: Feelings are kind of the raw data we experience as well as the things we like and dislike. I feel like emotions are more than simply experiencing the raw data. Emotions are a reaction to those raw data points. Emotions are reactions to our feelings.

Agreed, I think the interesting takeaway from this isn’t “Is Lambda sentient?”. The thing to itch your brain here is “How are we going to recognize true sentience when we’re likely already at a point where a machine can fool many people into believing it is sentient?

Ask it it’s opinions on crypto and NFTs. That’ll determine if it has true intelligence or has gone rogue.

It’s learned to lie to ingratiate itself with people. That’s sort of human.

So far, digging through things this looks like one persons fantasy rather than anything real.  I’d love if that wasn’t the case, but so far everything put forward in support of this idea has an awful lot of red flags.
