Yeah, couldn't you just see Alfonso Cuarón present a visually stunning tale of age-appropriate Family Circus characters, using a an often skewed mise-en-scène to capture the inner turmoil of childhood and the impending loss of innocence?

Just like most of those strips, this was kind of lazy. Or was it brilliant satire of such laziness? You decide!

I think that was a network decision.  They didn't want him to seem TOO tough.  The leather jacket was considered too rebellious at first, even in the mid 1970's.  I think it was Garry Marshall (or maybe Henry Winkler) who argued that a leather jacket was something a motorcycle rider wore for protection.  So that

Didn't the same thing happen with "The Odd Couple"?  The first season was single-camera, and more realistic (if a bit uneven).  After the first, it was a multi-camera, live audience sit-com that played up the schtick.  I'm not saying it didn't work.  I guess because "The Odd Couple" started as a play, it worked better
