It makes sense when you realize that they are amoral and do it just to get the religious voters, even though Jesus would’ve agreed with a whole mess of Dem policies. They do it to one up the whole “concern for the poor and vulnerable” thing.

I don’t understand how conservatives can be anti-choice. It’s so much cheaper to not force people to carry unwanted pregnancies out and then pay for all of the corresponding costs, than to simply have unfettered access to abortions. It makes no sense. They assign more value to keeping women down than they do to…
It’s not like it’s going to stop them from getting abortions. It’s only immoral when other people do it. But their case is special and God will forgive them.
Isn’t it weird how “pro-life” leaders work so hard to increase the abortion rate? It’s almost like their commitment to pro-life policies only extends to passing laws regulating what women can do with their bodies, and not to actually reducing the number of abortions (let alone supporting non-fetal life).
Now, apparently, race has to be dragged into everything because its sooooo edgy.
But he’s SO GOT DAMNED WOKE! If this thinkpiece was a person, it would be Rachel Dolezal. So would half my newsfeed on Facebook, just a Santa’s scroll of posts by white guys about the awful white people.
I love your post - thanks for writing it.
It’s funny, I never thought about the racial dynamics of Ghost World. Honestly I was just like Enid, I was a very sarcastic bitter teenager (but with brown skin and black hair and hijab). My friends and I would mock other students and we’d cuss out other people. (thankfully I grew the fuck up and I’m not like that…
“Whip smart” is one of those condescending terms men use to describe women they deem of above average intelligence.
Sorry, the white man says you should be offended.
And so it is that we now have to listen to some white man blabber on about the racial component of every movie ever made that has the nerve to not have a major black character.
uhhh.... I’m a South Asian Muslim immigrant and Ghost World was my #1 movie in 2001...shit, I watched it a thousand times on dvd and I was obsessed with the graphic novel and the website. I graduated from high school the same year the movie came out and I hated everyone with equal passion like Enid and Becky, and my…
It’s both. She was debating a bully who has no problem using his physical presence to intimidate women. I don’t think a male candidate would have had to worry quite so much about Trump looming over them.
Not being very good and being the best choice are not mutually exclusive. I still had/have zero issues voting for her. A more or less continuation of Obama’s administration would have been greatly satisfying.
She wasn’t a great canidate. But Joe, the former Senator from Bank of America who drafted and still defends the 1994 Crime Bill, thinks he would have been a better one. Which is absurd.
Color me shocked. With everything coming out now do we really need to keep debating why Clinton lost? This bullshit about her not being good enough is... just bullshit.
It makes me want to cry that our female candidate knew she had to practice not being physically intimidated by her opposition.
Can everyone control their impulses to collectively shit on this film until it’s actually been released?
