That really was an unexpected film for the time, especially given the casting.

I’m pretty sure this was the reason:

I rewatched the 1960 version recently and, charmingly dated special effects aside, it holds up remarkably well. It's relatively faithful to the original novel in a lot of ways and has some memorable images, like the world's last books crumbling to dust in his hands.

Remember how the 2002 film was actually considered a really big deal leading up to its release, because HG Wells’ actual descendant was directing it and the machine itself was the most expensive movie prop ever made? That it’s become so forgotten while the 1960 film still has a following tells you all you need to know.

You should follow it up with a viewing of a Sound of Thunder.

Wow, I totally forgot that did a version in 2002. At the time, I opted not to watch it. Figuring that maybe I was just being a negative Nancy I just found the movie and started playing it. 5 minutes in and I want to smash my face against my coffee table until I knock myself unconscious.

If there was a Queen song entitled “I Don’t Ever Want to Work with that Director Again,” this cast would probably be big fans.

No, they know how the internet works, but they still expect to be exonerated from their actions due to their “whiteness”. ie: The law is for black/brown heathens and consider the police THEIR bodyguards. (which sadly appears to be so).

Songbirds are objectively cool. They’re also an important snack food for many other animals. They all - songbirds, squirrels, shrikes, falcons, snakes, crows, mice, pocket gophers - have an niche to fill. None of them are inherently good or bad.

I love the songbirds and adorable dumbass pigeons that hang out on my window ledge, but the peregrines nesting on a couple skyscrapers are also excellent as hell.

Octopuses are carnivores. They eat meat. I like crabmeat, and you probably do too. Octopuses just don’t have access to clarified butter.
