If anyone at the Super Bowl actually cared about the game being played, Goodell would get booed every year too.

Yeah, hearing “Oh the NHL is being dumb again” as opposed to “Oh the NHL is being self-destructive again” was mildly relieving. At this point I’m used to dumb from them, as depressing as that is.
Honestly, after the first few sentences, I expected this to be a piece about an upcoming labor stoppage. In that light, salary cap uncertainty is positively good news.
Honest but silly question... why is that precision so important they need to wait to crunch all the numbers? Can’t they just pick a close enough number? How does coming in half a million over or under cause such concern?
Nah- Bettman has pissed off two countries, so he’s an international disgrace.
Great playoffs; shitty management - it’s the NHL way!
Why’s that? Lots of long term residents from all ethnic backgrounds, and even citizens. Japan’s far more welcoming than some would have you believe.
I’m sorry, but independent contractors are not entitled to the benefits/protections afforded to salaried employees. By definition, an independent contractor has personal control over the means/methods of completing the contracted work.
Substitute Walmart with any other entry level service job. My point is if people are unhappy working for Uber they have other options especially in the current labour market.
Bless your heart. Your naivete is entertaining.
I can’t find any legal definition that explicitly says that an independent contractor sets the value of his/her own labor. Every source I’ve found simply provides some version of “...a person or business who performs services for another person under an express or implied agreement...”
Who was protecting them from the old/current taxi medallion system that put many of them into crippling debt? Uber underpaying is far less insidious than putting drivers into debt that exceeds what they can expect to earn over the next 40 years as a taxi driver. But it’s way more fun to bitch about Uber (which by the…
Yeah, why don’t we go back to the old system where they go into crippling debt to purchase an overpriced medallion that they are told is an appreciating asset, but was really a BS bubble created by a refusal of the regulators to responsibly regulate. That’s when America was great and drivers were living the dream…
Haven’t worked many contract jobs have you? I am a mechanical engineer and I have worked as an independent contractor engineer 3 or 4 times when I was in between full time jobs or trying to get on a company full time. If you go through an agency (Uber in this case) the agency sets the rate that you get paid, there is…
You’re missing the point. There’s always another person filling the position. Stop focusing on the individual and look at the bigger picture. One person can go find another job, but that job still exists, the opening is still there and then that new person is getting screwed. The flexibility and autonomy aren’t…
Why don’t they just apply for work elsewhere? Walmart isn’t exactly difficult to get hired at and they provide all those “employee protections” that everyone is so concerned Uber does not.
Once again, they chose to work for Uber. They’re not being forced to drive. They’re relying on this as their only source of income. It was meant to make a quick buck in between jobs or on your free time. They’re contractors, not employees. They signed the contract knowing everything ahead of time, now they’re whining.
How is it stupid? When I don’t like my job, I go and find a new one. No job is perfect and if I believe that I’m being underpaid, I go job hunting. How is it so hard to understand? I get that the conditions suck, but if nobody drove for them, they’d be screwed, so help these drivers leave their shitty companies. If…
Strong contribution to discussion. Thanks for your insight
Driving for Uber is the epitome of a “if it’s not worth doing, don’t do it” job.
