It's funny, I have so many things I like about that movie that I don't know what to single out. I didn't get the cheeky sarcasm of Max turning up "the classics" in the opening with Jada Pinkett, but it's a nice song that sets the tone and vibes with the movie nicely. (Can't recall the artist, but "Hands of Time" is…
To me it's an action thriller essentially about getting off your ass and doing something with your life. And not only that, but a terrific performance from everyone involved, a great score, and what one critic described as "Michael Mann found a new way to shoot L.A.." That coyote scene was unscripted. incidental and…
I have not, actually, though I'm sure I'll catch it down the road. I found The Incredibles sort of tonally odd in that sense as well. Not that I'm a critic of children's movies or anything, but the trope of 'kid who just wants to be a sidekick to his favourite superhero grows up into a villain who gets flayed into…
One of my favourite under-rated movies of the 00's. To your last paragraph, I'd add on the simple stutter Jamie Foxx gives to his last speech to Vincent.
More like Sarah Huckabee Makesmesick!
Or Larry.
There seems to be a considerable backlash and snark against this, but I see nothing wrong with the idea normalizing a single-mom household, and leaving the whereabouts of the dad adult and ambiguous.
Something Williams. That one doesn't work as well.
That reminds me of a criticism of the original Saw, where the guy is forced to choose between cutting off his leg or reaching for the cellphone, all the while carrying a tool (a saw) that could have helped retrieve the other device (the phone).
That's not true. Good ol' Rock. Nothing beats that.
Don't forget Mambo No. 5…
I do find it impressive as well. and I agree that they don't deserve the flak for the late-90s/early-00s nu-metal version of "Parents Just Don't Understand". To me, that entire genre can be summed up with singing the word "beautiful" in a post-grunge drawl, and the lyric "sit and stare". There was a lot of sitting and…
GET THAT CAT OUT OF THE WAY!!
Kind of surprised to read this. Chad Kroeger circa 2017 is basically a nice guy who managed to get through a decade-plus of shit with a healthy sense of humour about himself and his band. Even Jim Gaffigan did a bit on Conan on how stupid it is to hate them. By all accounts I've heard, they're genuinely nice guys who…
I'd always thought of "Freak on a Leash", "Got The Life", and "Make Me Bad", (the first recently got the piano treatment, the second maybe their best song), but I feel it's almost unadaptable. The songs you mentioned are from when I had tuned out mostly, and into my teenage Incubus phase.
In no way would I want to minimize that. That was the impression I got from their fifth album (and their prom music video with Aaron Paul). I was a teenager then, and am merely drawing from my opinion at the time. I still stand that Jonathan Davis' lyrics are something to be desired - and say that as someone who owned…
Korn's downfall was essentially Jonathan Davis not being able to get over being picked on in elementary school. I've always wanted to find a song to cover acoustically, but the lyrics are so hard to get past. That said, they were strikingly original, and I view them as one of the good bands of that genre, overall.
I figured it was one or zero.
Apparently fairly strong. I'd rather enjoy my last moments - and heroically, in this case - than be cognizant.
