I just realized that citing those countries from memory in the order you listed them would spell as an acronym 'ISYSSL' and separately, RIP Alex Jones, who died tragically of a blown mind.

It is if you run fast enough.

I'm a pastor's son, and every pastor's child who grows into secularism knows the weird but ultimately happy loneliness of that life. I don't buy into the 'brainwashing' argument (not that you're making it - parents raise kids according to what they believe). The argument that I heard and tend to agree with is that -

I don't know any otherwise to dispute that, but I remember him talking about going for coffee with her and saying, "It was the most fun I've ever had on a date that didn't end in sex." Take from that what you will, but I think there's an Axis/Allies Christmas ceasefire element to it, or at least I like to think that.

Ah. I didn't know that. I'm not a fan of his opinions or anything, but I always found that professional relationship oddly sweet. So much for nice things.

I neither like nor particularly hate Bill Maher, but I couldn't help but "Are .. you … serious" at that comparison.

I think what gave it the most teeth was how sincerely toned-down and patient-listener a persona Wilmore has cultivated for himself. His "???Go fuck yourself! You dumb little douchey prick!" was great to watch.

I wonder if it goes deeper than that. Jon Stewart and Bill O'Reilly seem to have a begrudging respect and fondness for each other, beneath the surface. Stewart called O'Reilly "the sanest person in the sanitorium". I can see them making themselves coffee backstage and talking about the Jets' defense at 7am.

Except it apparently … didn't work?

Perhaps. I| don't disagree, necessarily, but I felt you could see Obama bristle at it, and really, his would be the opinion that mattered most in such an exchange.

I seem to remember Maher being quoted as saying, "It was the most fun I've had on a date with a woman I didn't sleep with."

Good for Wilmore. I've always liked him, and felt bad when his swan song seemed to be his White House Press Correspondents Dinner. He seemed to be sweating the entire time (and I think she should have erred on the side of not referring to a sitting President of the United States as the N-word, even if Wilmore is black

I respect that Ahmed Best seems to have a good attitude about the whole thing. It seems to have been a shitty time, but he got over it, apparently.

I think he's saying that people can be assholes specific to those things, not that both can be guilty of not holding a door open for someone, et al.

innocuous - enjoy

It's a social party card game and the novelty wears off. Who cares? Observing that the guy who works in airline construction all day played a fart joke card does not make a person sophisticated.

Apparently it aired during the pre-game.

Now you need to .. realize .. that your .. behaviour? … is .. self-destructive. Now I'm gonna do it for you, you're gonna have to do it .. for yourself. We'll be right back.

Strangely enough, I was about to post that he reminds me of a cross between Matthew Good in the 90s heyday of his band and Matthew Good in the latter, superfluous half of his solo career. If you're not familiar, 'bitterly sarcastic and incredibly sincere' is what brought it to mind. It's a net compliment, at worst.

It's funny, I think the song that follows it, "Holy Shit", is also meant to be an extrapolation of that sentiment, and while I really liked it the first few times I heard it (he has an undeniable knack for chord progression) it, too, quickly fell into the same file of 'I like it, but at the same time I don't'. I mean
