I do something similar when at a light. I have to shift to second then straight up to first, just to assure me I’m not in reverse (German car standard shift pattern).
Yeah in my first manual car when I was 17 I hopped in half asleep, started the car in gear and let off the clutch and it proceeded to drive into the wall.
I mean, you should leave the car in gear even if you use the parking brake. Ask me how I know.
