A few years ago, a friend and his wife lost their toddler suddenly. It was every bit as awful as it sounds. At the funeral, I gave him a bear hug and we both burst into tears. While we cried, a bunch of unhelpful stuff went through my mind. (“Will our friendship be weird from now on?”)

The fact is that she had an audience that would be conducive to selling my book. I didn’t mind doing the show, and there was a tangible benefit to doing it. I get that not everyone would choose to do her show, but I weighed my options and decided that it was a good move for me at the time.

I’m a talking head who has appeared on dozens of cable shows, including Anderson Cooper 360, Dr. Drew, Joy Behar, and Nancy Grace. I work for a traditional print media outlet, so it’s a part of my job.
