I don’t have a problem with people celebrating their own culture. It’s not a one way street by the way, it’s possible for both immigrants to fail to assimilate, and for countries to fail in assimilating them - see banlieues

I’m not equating them. If you paid attention you would know I have talked about language as well as other cultural norms. As I said, I’m not surprised you refuse to talk about cultural norms.

The idea is that they will learn the language over time. Some don’t.

What kind of example would satisfy you? I know these people. You think every single immigrant to every country learns the language of the native country fluently?

I have nothing wrong with ethnic communities. I like Chinatown. My point, which you are apparently too offended to bother understanding, is that it’s best for these communities to look beyond their ethnic communities as well.

It’s about having respect for the country that has let you in. If you move to Spain you should try to learn Spanish, if you move to China you should to learn Chinese.

I’ve talked about language and social mores. I can understand why you want to avoid all discussion of the latter.

What are you talking about? Why would I apply your statement to Republicans? That makes no sense.

I’m sure you feel the same way about Republicans, even though the views of a lot of Republicans are lightyears ahead of a lot of Muslims when it comes to women’s rights.

In the most multicultural country in the world, immigrants who refuse to leave their ethnic communities and interact with the greater populace are not looked upon very well by the immigrants who do.
