Actually, the pilgrims left because they were being persecuted by the Church of the country. Not because it wasn’t religiously strict enough. They left because they weren’t given the freedom to choose when and how they wanted to practice their religion. Pretty much the opposite.

Germany (amongst other liberal politicians) also wants to “give” uni students mandatory year of service to the people finding sanctuary in their country. I don’t think that helping them or volunteering is wrong, but making it mandatory is a little extreme.
