Well, the Camry has stayed true to itself for a long time; boring. I'd say by "jalop standards' the honda civic should be the antichrist. It used to be a fun inexpensive car with character, now it's just meh. At least a camry is a camry is a camry.

I completely agree with you. While I am 16 myself, my parents bought a BRAND new 97 camry and I thought that it was the coolest shit ever. The only thing really wrong with it was the heavy handed retro styling. (Especially that grill). The chassis was good, the engine was smooth and powerful (though not enough for amazing performance), and it even had a removable hardtop.
