Seriously? Pablo Escobar has been dead over twenty years. Using your logic are you still scared of traveling to Oklahoma City because of the Timothy McVeigh? Are you afraid to goto NYC because Bin Laden? I mean honestly, 20 years is an entire generation. Does your fear only apply to places outside the US?

In another decade or two, I'll bet that Havana would top this list. Proximity to the US, low cost of living, tropical weather (and you can get out for hurricane season), and a surprisingly robust healthcare system that stands to greatly improve once there's access to greater investment.

Those are OK I guess, but maybe you could check a little deeper......
