Everything I’ve read form interviews points to Cameron being pretty petty and full of himself. This holds true to that.

The worst part is, those two character could play a pivotal part and set up a 2nd Black Panther movies as well that dives into the unrest in Wakanda. I really think, aside from representation they also missed out on a gateway into more story potential for Black Panther.
