This is just ruthless economics. There is a great 60 minutes piece on this guy and how he calculated the payouts for 9/11 victims.

A counter argument could be made as to how ludicrous it is to associate mass shooting with the availability of guns. Here is a counterpoint. I own a gun. I have never gone on a mass shooting spree. Therefore if guns were the sole cause of shooting sprees I would have already gone on one.

Who are you talking to? Are you talking to me? I have guns. I would happily give them up if the government paid me fair market value for them as I actually had to inherit them from my grandfather. But I don’t think everyone would do that.

I hope the government comes and takes my guns too. But wait, how would the government know that I have guns in the first place to come and take them?
