I have to say that I find myself less appalled by the wanking, which seems more sad and pathetic rather than abusive (at least in intent), than by the pressure that was put to bear on those women to keep quiet about it afterwards.

I’d give her a pass. She was young with what sounds like fairly gruesome parents. Being able to recognise her indoctrinated mistake, and then change, is not something she should be vilified for.

Step 2 looks unnecessary to me, since you’re basically reproducing the layers of the onion. My method is similar but, I think, a little easier:

1. Cut pole-to-pole and peel, and cut off the non-hairy end of each half
2. Make a series of cuts from pole-to-pole, but leaving the hairy root untouched to hold your onion…

I don’t know where to start. Perhaps the writer is right, and the tone is just ‘off’, but this article reads as though he’s complaining that the nazis didn’t twirl their mustaches and give evil laughs enough.
