Something about Pet Sematary that I noticed the other day, but I can’ find any information as to whether it’s a coincidence or not. The father is called Louie, the son is called Gage, and there are a few references to the Wizard of Oz in the book. Now, Baum based Dorothy on, iirc, a niece called Louisa Gage.

As a UK small-r republican, I’m as confused as hell. On the one hand, yay, a POC in the royal family. On the hand, fuck the royal family.

Any black people from the UK on these boards? Does this stuff go down over here? I mean, I’ve witnessed some bullshit (and am probably guilty of some of it myself), but the state of US race relations seems off the scale.

As a straight, white, UK male, I haven’t really got much to say, except fascinating article.

Ah - gotcha.

No love for “Better Days”?

Screw the bomb jokes, what kind of monster mixes vodka with soda? Tonic water or gtfo.

Yeah, but...

No mention of “Spare Parts” from Tunnel of Love? Because I’m a sobbing mess by the time that song ends EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME.

I’m trying to get outraged by the specifics of this story, but in all honesty I’m having trouble making it past the fact that cops were allowed to proposition people they were arresting. America, WTF?

So, having a gun means you have to shoot people to stop them taking your gun? Wouldn’t it be better to not have a gun in the first place?

White UK here. I’m getting more and more appalled by the stuff coming out of the US. We’re by no means perfect over here - very far from it - but WTF?

That was my first thought. WTF?

Me to (admittedly a UK taxpayer, but I’d still happily fork out). Couldn’t they just add an “will happily pay for stupid shit if you get it on video” checkbox to the tax form, and take it from there?

A drop in the ocean (sic). That’s not where your money’s going, and you’re not even getting any cool videos from where (and to whom) it is going.

Is it me, or do the guys on the video know exactly what (they hope) is coming?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Big Bill Broonzy recently, but it’s always a guilty pleasure. He sang ‘classic’ blues with the persona of someone who had just wandered in from the cotton fields, but the reality was that he was, by nature, a much more radical musician who was persuaded to take on a more marketable
