I totally agree. One of the reasons I never got into Fortnite was because of all the hopping about... then I get Blops4 and it’s the same. To think CS had this problem in beta 1.2 or 1.3 and they solved it, now years later it’s spreading like a disease again. I would really appreciate if they got rid of this.

I’d say this article is a little misleading too. Sure, engines are not set in stone, they evolve, but there’s still a structure to them, a base that doesn’t change. And sometimes, to really make something new, you DO need to change engines (which is precisely what we see some studios do all the time).

When Microsoft started with Xbox, they had the great idea to get lots of people who knew what they were doing, and they did some pretty good things (one of them, was getting a bunch of really cool exclusives on the original Xbox and the beginning of the Xbox 360).

I played Destiny 1 a lot (it helped that I was unemployed at the time), but as good as The Taken King was, by that time I had a job and no more clan, so I barely played it. Never even got to try the raid. I didn’t even bother with Rise of Iron. I would have loved to, it sounded cool, but by that time, we already knew…

The games industry can be incredibly secretive, to the point where even most hardcore gamers have many misconceptions or have no idea what really goes into making the games we play.

Now, finally, it seems like top people at game studios are talking about crunch in a way that might lead to serious change. Maybe there’s hope for video games after all?
