Unfortunate and curious he didn't connect with it at all, then. Was he a fan of Dear Esther or their other work? The review seems so seething and bitter about the prospect of the game even existing, it's amazing to hear he was looking forward to playing it.

I totally get not connecting with this game, but this review isn't negative, it's bitter.

Personally, I played The Witcher 3 for like 17 hours and had to collect 48 different types of plants while mastering 28 horse riding maneuvers and 324 attack button combinations while keeping track of 612 characters, so a walking simulator sounds perfect to me right now.

I also admire how stupidly ambitious the story is, flaws and all.

I actually vastly prefer Infinite over Bioshock. I found the dark, claustrophobic, repetitive levels suffocating and dull after a while. I also had zero emotional investment in the story, unlike with Infinite, and for me personally that will always override any minor flaws.

I have a difficult time taking reviews seriously that seem to be written from a perspective of outright dismissal before even playing them. Teti seemed to approach this game with, "Ugh, let's get through this stupid game where you just walk around", instead of with an open mind and… (sheds tear) an open heart.

Gamestop - 9.0 "Beautiful, nonlinear narrative demanding full emotional investment."
IGN - 8.5 "A Beautiful, heart-breaking journey into the end of the world."
AVClub - "Boooooooooring!"
