Switzerland will open on June the first the longest Rail Tunnel on Earth. The “Gotthard Basistunnel” is a 2 Tube High Speed Rail Tunnel crossing the Alps, 2 km under solid rock. Each tube is 57km long (35.5mi) so together its more than 94 miles.

I can not image this system will get a premsion to move people with this high speed. It will take years of testing and developing before even thinking of building a comercial track.

Deutsche Bahn offers already today a “door to door” service. You can rent cars (most of them electric) or bikes to go to the railwailstation or from your destiney Station to wherever you want. I belive when self driving cars getting on the streets (in Germany in ~5 years), this service would be a great sucsess.
