DICKMATIZED. I always forget about this word and I’m always so happy and grateful when it reappears in my consciousness.

I am married to a Spaniard as well, and have not changed my name. Intellectually, I just couldn’t get down with it and, as you know, it’s weird for his culture. So, kind of a win-win on that one. I don’t know what to do about kids, though. We live in the US, and I like Spanish naming tradition, but people get CONFUSED…
I agree with you and I’m sorry for the aside, but is Meritxell your first name? It’s one of my favorites, and if my husband and I have a daughter someday we think that’ll be her name. (he’s Catalan)
Orange County itself is rich but its finances are very poorly managed and their school districts can be kind of a mess as well.
Jacqueline is a very French name. Maybe co-opted by a lot of Latinas, but its origin is absolutely French (cq, as well as -line is classically French). Unless you were being sarcastic, in which case, sorry!
I really hope that this is just an initial hangover period of women finally gaining some rights and agency, and that the next generation of depressed, angry men will be more adjusted to reality and less concerned with this - more used to the new order of things, I guess is what I’m trying to say. I doubt it, but…
Unrelated, but, from your perspective - any insight on the ‘15 Fiesta dual clutch transmission? Problem solved?
AMEN, sister. Amen. I just had this conversation with someone. Had to explain it’s not really a cowtown but actually a very large city on a national scale.
FYI they’re made by Cole Haan, if that helps. Usually requires breaking in but good once so
Fair enough. I was murky enough on it myself that I was genuinely asking the question, and was genuinely confused. Only by some of the replies I got back (not yours) did I realize it seemed to invite the trolls.....
Also, were those domestic abuse allegations true? I think he’s super hot AND I love Macbeth and I will probably see this, truthfully, but we hate Chris Brown, et al, and don’t even mention it here?
I commented elsewhere about it, but I just finished reading a few books about the Bosnian war, and it reminded me of the rape camps run by the Bosnian Serb army that enslaved Bosniak women. This wasn’t very long ago, either. It seems this brand of barbarism is never really far from the surface on this planet.
Indeed, and we are finally starting to talk about the atrocities that the Bosnian Serb army committed against the Bosniak women (which doesn’t sound completely unlike this account with their rape camps and whatnot)
Absolutely. Abstractly, it’s something I think about a lot, even though we don’t have kids. What would happen, you know? And that’s from two countries that have a moderate amount in common like Spain and the USA (not to mention treaties and the like). Already, it’s exhausting thinking about how split our lives are…
I married a Spaniard, and am trying to convince him to move to Spain every year, just because I like it (despite it being a financial wasteland these days). At least - if all goes downhill! - I could be forced to move to Spain to see my kids? Always good to pick a good country when choosing a mate for life.
Sorry, I’m about a week late to this, but YES. You’re the first person I’ve “met” who understands my hatred of this weird trend! And, it’s only a trend in the US - it definitely isn’t in other countries, not as far as I can tell. I think it’s meant to convey that whomever is putting the words up is really, really deep…
