I watched the first couple, liked it, then assigned the rest of it to Kelsey (who wrote about it glowingly at Vox), because I knew she would like it even more. So I haven't finished it yet, because it's a finite thing, and those are easier to squeeze in any time.

SLowly but surely, AVC has realized all of the mod permissions I had and has stripped me of them.

I am usually watching SOMEthing from when I wake up to when I go to bed, with a handful of exceptions. So far more hours than I would care to admit. Of course, a lot of that is half-watched while I work on other stuff, but I try to give primacy to the shows I really love, a list that's growing longer and longer.

I'm not going home for Christmas this year, so I don't really think we will indulge in typical Christmas traditions. Though we always listen to the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack while opening presents, and I suppose Libby and I could continue that.

Wooster, probably. But I don't have a firm opinion one way or another!

I love Vox! It is really refreshing to be at a publication that has been built from the ground up to be on the internet, instead of having all sorts of vestigial organs left over from print publication days. This is not a slam on anywhere else I've written — it's just that when you are building toward a print product,

Fat, lazy, and happy. As they should be.

Despite not being a huge TD fan, I agree that McConaughey gave one of the best performances of the year. There's a raw intensity to his work here (and, honestly, in Interstellar) that feels so unflinching and honest, even when he's chewing scenery like a motherfucker.

Merry happy.

I don't think I've ever expressed a particular aversion to prequels? A lot of them are bad, but some work really well, and I've written many, many times about how much I like when we have a sense of where the story is going and can see the characters struggle against their fate.

I regret nothing!

It's not a problem! I'm literally not even mad. It's just that my content has shifted not one iota since I went from here to Vox. Arguably, it's gotten better, because Vox has a more rigorous editorial process (by design). What HAS shifted is the presentation of said content, and most of the time, that's just me

I love Vox. It is the best job I have ever had. No blinking.

No.

The Leftovers is not to blame here.

Basically, the timeline is:

Well, I assigned this show to Sonia a few months before I left, after having saved it for myself for several years. I knew she would do a great job, and in reading this review, I see she has. She is one of the best critics working today, and she opens my eyes to things I haven't considered about the TV I watch over

Cally is the fucking best. She's a New Yorker short story character who ended up in a sci-fi show, and I WILL NOT hear anyone whine about her. So say we Todd.

The greatest proof the Lost guys really did have the ending planned from the beginning is that they didn't just steal any one of the number of fan theories that would have made more sense. (I am a season six defender, too.)

This is one of my favorite books.
