I like a lot of season seven, but Jim and Pam's wedding would have been the best series finale, so far as I'm concerned. Not everything up until that point is ingenious, but it's all at least pretty good.
As one of Sonia's white male friends, I can confirm I do exist.
DeLaurentiis said Dolarhyde's story MIGHT wrap in season three, or it might run on into season four. I'm hoping for the latter.
This is backward. I generally prefer the sitcoms of the '70s to any other era of the form, and I lean more toward multi-cam than single-cam, though I have series I love in both styles.
For the first few seasons, they recorded people laughing as they watched it. They switched to a straight laugh track three or four seasons in.
It's the microphones. You can even hear the difference in this between individual sitcoms. For instance, Last Man Standing has very natural mic'ing. Even if you don't laugh, you get why and how the audience does. Lorre, meanwhile, over-mics, so the sound is more artificial.
Here is a review of the new Planet of the Apes movie written by some guy. If you like it, please share it via your various social channels! http://www.vox.com/2014/7/9…
"I" is actually accurate there, as the predicate is linked to the subject by "are," which takes a participial subject. So technically, when you answer the phone with "It's me," you're speaking inaccurately and should be saying, "It's I." But that would just sound stupid, so I don't recommend it.
We are testing the waters with comments. But I SHOULD have comments on my Masters of Sex review this weekend. So not comments on EVERYthing, but comments on a lot of my reviews. Culture articles are a pretty low-stress way to test what sort of commentariat we will attract.
There are two episodes I did not review when they ran. Probably one of those. (Conventions Of Space And Time and Herstory Of Dance.) I am cautiously neg on the former, cautiously pro on the latter. But I am also traveling a lot, so you don't have to slot me in there!
Leonard likes this.
What if I wrote a review?
No, thank YOU. If we get comments at Vox (so not decided yet), I hope to see all of you there at least once.
God, I hate Disqus.
Tasha still contributes to the book reviews section, which is why she's still there.
Most of the TV Club people (David and Pilot included) were only ever freelancers, so their leaving was always expected. We always knew somebody else would snap them up. The only TV full-timers right now are Erik, Sonia, and I.
I think the plan is to drop in occasionally.
Really!
Essentially every design decision you see people making today is driven by two things: 1.) Traffic is driven by tablets and smart phones. (Seriously, this audience is HUGE.) 2.) Traffic is no longer driven by home pages, but by clicks from social media.
