He is pretty good actor when cast right. His turns in apt pupil, poorly pretty unknown Duane Hopwood and Big Nothing all come highly recommended and differ quite allot from each-other. He also directed American-British feel good movie Run Fatboy Run which comes highly recommended.

Spooky, disturbing (but undeniably sexy) is a great way to describe the so lovely neo-noir gloom of Dark City in general also.

It's story is pretty generic but for me personally it gets wiped away completely by set design and marvellous casting choices.
