Yay!!! I didn’t do every challenge last year, but I really enjoyed the ones I did participate in. It was encouraging to feel like I was part of a larger community of like-minded folks.

I was paying close to $100 with with Verizon a year ago, so I decided to switch to Cricket, which charges me $35 monthly I only have 2 gigs of data per month, but I have access to great wifi at home and at work (I’m a university professor). I’ve saved about $780!!!

I curbed my spending at the supermarket. That’s usually where I tend to do most of my impulse spending. Then I used that money to buy shoes and clothes! It wasn’t a frivolous expense because I needed to update my work wardrobe. Worked out nicely!

I like this approach because it pushes back against the pressure people feel to exercise a certain way with a certain attitude. I was having a similar conversation last week with a friend who teaches fitness classes. She said, “whatever works for you. whatever makes you happy.”

I spent $1000 less than I did last month on food! Wow. We had family visit, so our food spending was higher than usual, but when I compare my budget to what I average every month, it’s still significantly less. Like a lot of folks, I realized my spending is usually related to stress. It really doesn’t take that long
