it’s easy to mythologize republicans as some sort of monster impervious to any degree of debasement, and that is largely true, but a republican could be forced out of office instantly for things most of us would consider very minor, e.g.:
You are amazing!
Reminds me of this:
This isn’t really that uncommon.
Bad example. The vast majority of children don’t have income and require their parents to pay for them. That’s why that kind of pricing is fine. Every person using a dating site has the potential to be employed. They are all adults.
Seriously. This article’s old (and discusses an extreme response to white women fragility) but it’s stayed with me since I read it:
Seeing her blithe comment about Emmett Till it’s quite likely you could be lynched for walking into the wrong Five And Dime. Or registering Black people to vote. Or attending church in Alabama. Etc.
Er, “school quality”.
Would love to read this book—incredibly well written and informative piece. Sigh sometimes I almost miss social science academia. Almost.
Emphasis on “historical driving forces of white nationalism”. I’ve seen plenty of white nationalist propaganda that prominently feature still images of Taylor Swift, Sansa Stark or some other random white woman. It can’t be understated how the idea white female purity/fragility is perhaps the most potent fuel for…
Will be preordering this book. White women’s role in maintaining white supremacy has been swept under the rug for far to long.
ah, yes, that old beloved dog whistle.
I don’t have time to read this right now but i suggest listening to “the problem we all live with” from this american life. It shows white women still defending segregation under the guise of safety.
“The next summer, Bell tried to rally newspaper editors and segregationists across the state”
This is so important, and provides a helpful lens into understanding the 53% today, and the historical driving forces of white nationalism. Thank you!
You’re supposed to assume the 2nd, and that it’s all okay because they’re “gay” (actually bi but apparently bi people don’t exist) and/or it’s an Italian story.
Spoilers:
I’m not sure of what “pose the question” means to you. The film does have the older character express that he doesn’t ever want the younger one to “regret” the relationship or feel that it “messed him up.” As for why the older character falls in love—the film has a lot of scenes of them talking, flirting,…
...does the film ever bother to pose the question of why this fully adult person is shacking up with a teenager, rather than someone more age-appropriate?
