I appreciate the more in depth answer! I haven’t had any issues whenever using CarPlay. I feel like I’ve used it as a stand alone app in the past but maybe it was just a bug where it kept working outside the car.

I’ve had a different experience but my question is why would anyone prefer the proprietary infotainment system over either android auto or Apple Car Play?
