I mean, it is kind of a drag, and I think if it were me I would just run off to city hall and do the deed- but it’s really important to them to have a family thing so I get wanting to wait until you can afford it. It’s not like they haven’t set the date and booked the venue or anything.

Ok. That’s fine- but there isn’t any reason to judge people who make different decisions. Just because they thought that it made more sense to use the severance pay as a (time sensitive) opportunity for some career advancement doesn’t me that they’re not living up to the responsibilities of their relationship

You never know, situations can change. I have a friend whose fiancee got laid off and decided to go back to grad school about 3 months after they got engaged. They’ve set a date, but have pushed it back. I think they’ll have been engaged for just over 3 years by their wedding. What were they going to do, become

As my grandfather always tells us, it’s not too cold, you are wearing the wrong clothes. Northern people need to know how to dress for the winter. (I fought the Russians on cross-country skiis... He’s a Finn, it’s a whole set piece rant.)

Yep! (But probably not a good reason for it to win a golden globe for best comedy.)

I loved the 90's feel of it- but then again I was the kid who wore out two copies of Apollo 13, so I was pretty much the target audience.

Pretty much. They seem to just dump anything ‘genre’ into the comedy/musical category which is what makes it strange.

Thanks! I really was being lazy by not just googling. =D

100% this. All this anti-immigrant bullshit is just kicking the person one rung lower than you and hoping it will make you feel better. If any of these people really cared about American jobs they’d be going after the people who have created a broken and unfair system.

That makes sense I guess, you can’t just erode people’s rights based on association. I think I just have trouble conceptualizing gun ownership as a right.

Yeah, I didn’t think that would be a thing. I can kind of understand it as I could see that denying access to things based on who people associated with could quite quickly become a slippery slope for the state, who, as you pointed out, can’t always be trusted to make the right calls.

Question from a non-American: what CAN get you banned from owning a gun? Like, I’m assuming that being charged with a crime means you can’t own one? Do they check if people are part of hate groups?

This is 100% the case. When I started making new friends as an adult I was amazed at the number of people who have been around drugs and have even tried some of the harder ones. My family and my friend group was just not involved in that scene at all- most people didn’t even smoke weed.

Well, we voted in the highest numbers since 1993... but we were still lower than pretty much every election before that. (I’m... not sure whether to put a happy face or a sad face after that.)

Well, yes, I could do this- but it’s pretty much guaranteed that I won’t. I admire the patience of people who do though.

That’s pretty awesome. 100% respect for working on it!

May I ask a question, if it isn’t too forward? (Feel free to ignore, it’s just that as someone who is dating I’m curious.)

And it depends why you dislike them too. I have a good friend whose husband frequently bores all of us to (well concealed) tears, but who is essentially a good guy. To that I say each to their own.

My mom isn’t that bad- I honestly think that from her perspective it wasn’t a big enough thing to remember, whereas it clearly made me agonize over it for years. *sigh*

It’s weird, right?
