To be fair, the idea of home birth ESPECIALLY on a first pregnancy is incredibly disturbing to me. As a historian I just want so sit these people down and explain pre-modern and early modern maternal and infant mortality rates to them VERY SLOWLY.

Um, you are clearly not rational on this and you have definitely not read the actual scientific data on the MMR booster, which is INCREDIBLY effective if administered correctly and at appropriate intervals.
Sadly, working in Toronto has only increased my ire and desire to taunt Leaf's fans at every turn:
Go HABS!!! Please tell me you don't cheer for the Leafs....
It's not really all that tricky- I mean, I completely get if you want to just buy pre-made stuff, more power to you (and to me, as I do it too)- but you don't exactly need a degree in nutrition to look at a label and know that 60% of your daily recommended allowance of sodium is a HELL of a lot of sodium.
I don't know about the strange sexual interests thing- I mean I think it depends on what you mean by that. I recently went on a very nice date with a man who told me upfront on our date that he was into polyamoury and kink - which is fine, but not my thing. I appreciated it because I then knew that we were looking for…
I wish we could get them to switch to a different era though, just to give us a break. What about the late 18th century when writing poetry, weeping at nature, and declaring your love for all your friends was incredibly manly. (I am being slightly flippant about the romantics, but that's about the same level of…
I know, right? I could never trust anyone ever again.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. There's a certain group of people who are insisting on referring to this whole thing as him being involved in a sex scandal- which is pretty disingenuous when what is happening is that he's being accused of, you know, actual criminal sexual assault. It's usually the same group of people who…
I know this is completely not the point of your post, but I love Anna Maria Tremonti- her interviews are incredible and I thought she did such a great job this morning. Kudos to both her and Lucy DeCoutere for an interview that was both bitingly direct but dealt sensitively and respectfully with the victims.
I had an argument (albeit a very polite one) about this in my coffee shop this morning. Seriously. The next person who I hear utter the word scandal will get my coffee in their face.
He's really famous. Easily the most well known radio presenter in the country I would say. There's also the fact that he's on the CBC which is our national public broadcaster, so it's a bit more upsetting than if it had just been some huge corporation that was involved. Plus the CBC has a lot of multigenerational…
That's amazing! I'm totally co-opting it!
Although I agree that we don't need just one word I would also like to say that I'm built just like your friend and would like to nominate amazon- my most common descriptor. Not sure if those are dependent on the fact that I'm also tall though...
Intellectual history of the 18th century? That always brought out the real assholes in my department. (No offence to the, I'm sure, tens of lovely people working on the subject.)
Eh, if you aren't close then don't invite them. I have 17 first cousins (plus spouses now...) and while some of them invited everyone to the wedding some of them didn't. I mean, everyone's family situation is different, but I think actually discussing things like adults instead of being really passive aggressive is…
It's true- my step mother just took over as director of the emergency department in our hometown and the last few months have been a mess of disciplinary actions etc. relating to this sort of thing.
That's a horrific ethical violation by that nurse. I hope she's been hauled up for it.
Thanks for the article! It was really interesting. I didn't realize that Texas was different in general and it explained a lot.
