If it's to deceive people in order to achieve a sale it is cheating.

It's cheating when they specifically try to overclock benchmark apps to inflate their scores and nothing else. There is no reason to do it other than to cheat. You doing it for a specific app because you have a practical reason to do so is not an apt comparison.
