I liked this episode - for me it felt like a bit of return to form, and it was refreshing that not all the jokes were built on gross-out humour or the cast being hateful to one another. Sure it didn't have the pop and zeal of earlier seasons, but this show can be exceptionally clever and observant with it's throw away

Thanks, @avclub-7adb6a50e7687b45a00b35796f18f17d:disqus - it's maybe one of the best things I've ever stolen from Jon Stewart and The Daily Show.

I kinda had a feeling that this season of Boardwalk would play out exactly like S02, that is to say, I would quietly admire it for a number of episodes, and then somewhere past the middle it would sink it's claws into me. This was certainly that episode. If only for Van Alden going the full Michael Shannon…

It is pretty crazy that for all the pairing off that's happened on this show, the most perfectly suited couple is Van Alden and Sigrid. He certainly lucked out with that one…

To be sure, I'll take this Cromwell over the American Horror Story Cromwell. I don't feel the need to take a shower after these scenes…

After the end of last season when it was wondered aloud just what they were going to do with Van Alden, I think this is a satisfying turn of events…

I'd be more on board (especially given more screen time for Roiz, clearly a graduate of the Armand Assante School of Smouldering Intensity) were it not for the fact that:
1) The show has lost me on anything involving Juliette, and
2) This is clearly just a mechanism to put Nick's love life in peril, and any progression

Well I could give a damn whether it's "old" media or "new" media so long as it conveys something about the creative process behind the show, i.e. if someone is making an effort or just going through the motions.

Oh the endless Bond ranking…

The one thing I can say in favour of this show is that at least the Southerners aren't all a bunch of dumb hicks or kooky eccentrics, which is rare for television (looking squarely at you Bones).

Well in spite of losing all that weight she's merely an average sized person now, and we certainly can't have that as a leading actress now, can we?!
