An odd thing to praise perhaps, but Stephen Amell's flashbacks looked great, i.e. he looked like a fresh faced kid on the yacht, and he's appropriately aged in his current visage.

There's still some rough edges to work out, but this episode demonstrated to me that the show could actually work. Hopefully things will continue to get better.
