I’m a kidless woman (and probably planning on keeping it that way), but I’ve been to and hosted all sorts of parties where children were welcome that involved lots of alcohol, to the extent that among my friends it’s generally assumed kids are allowed unless otherwise specified. I would rather it be inclusive and have

It’s inappropriate at any event associated with a conference (which this was), and a married 50 year-old hitting on a college student is gross. It’s also part of a likely pattern of behavior.

This rumor has been around for a while in the astronomy community. Was at a conference with him at one point and he seemed to like the attention of undergrad women far too much. Former UT prof also told me the person who accused him of rape he viewed as credible. Glad the investigation is happening

Space Force was never about putting weapons in space. It was about streamlining acquisitions of satellite communications, GPS, and imagery. Zero change in policy regarding weapons in space. Source: I work in the space industry and have been part of many conversations on whether Space Force was a good idea. I’ve even

This.  That area has actively been opposing LA metro rail service through their neighborhoods for ages, and blocking construction through Beverly Hills and Westwood (where UCLA is) among other places.

I went to the Holocaust museum a few weeks ago, specifically to see their rotating exhibit on “American and the Holocaust”. They made it very clear in the exhibit that the US didn’t feel the need to take Jewish refugees, and sent many back to their deaths. 2/3 of Americans thought the Jews were at least partially

Or just eat at an Indian or Thai restaurant, where this holds for a large fraction of the food (or nearly all of it if you go to a vegetarian restaurant)

Thank you for writing human-built and not man made, unlike our current NASA administrator on Twitter!

Remember the Anthem breach 3 years ago where the data of 80 million people was compromised? I’m not convinced private industry is necessarily worse though, because the companies have an economic incentive to prevent this, and are purchasing cyberinsurance, which require that they show *some* cybersecurity

I’m the opposite! At 5'5" I found the TRTL really uncomfortable because it felt too big. Also Amazon seems shady AF because they don’t seem to be allowing reviews for anything purchased on Prime Day (when I got mine) because of “unusual reviewing activity”, which seems like code for “we know this site is plagued by

I’ve been around DC long enough to know that wearing one is not the norm here... So married men can hook up with ease.  As someone who has accidentally dated two of them (and know enough others with such horror stories).

I did this on Emirates once, LAX-Dubai (then on to Delhi on an error fare for $350 RT), which was 16 hours.  It actually was not bad at all, because Emirates, even coach, is fantastic.  You can go grab snacks any time you want, the cabin is comfortable, the regular meals are good...  But I would never do such a flight

I feel you. My worst case of food poisoning was in Beijing when I was an undergrad, from the dining hall food. My cell phone that I bought there to use died on day 2, so there went contacting anyone, and I spoke no Mandarin. I felt like death, managed to go to the school store, and point out a thermometer and procure

My middle school self lived off of Pop Tarts for lunch. I realized that the two times per week I got lunch money = $$$ if I didn’t actually spend it on a full lunch.  It was probably the greatest # of calories per $ in the vending machine?

I bought one of these on Prime Day. It is super uncomfortable for me at 5'5"; I think they probably need multiple sizes. Amazon also won’t let me review it; it seems like everything that was on sale on Prime Day has had its reviews disabled due to “unusually high reviewing activity”, which makes me think the whole

... They just built a Museum of Tomorrow according to the article, which was extravagantly funded, instead of giving this museum enough money to implement adequate fire prevention. And I’m sure other museums would’ve been more than happy to take their collection off their hands. If you go with the philosophy that the

An important part of this story is in The Guardian article— it seems like their government refused to upgrade the museum, and there were not functional fire hydrants nearby, which is how the whole thing burned. Feels pretty familiar, given how our current President tried to shut down the National Endowment for the
