The game is also known as Football Fable. They are going for the alliteration angle so Soccer Story it is.
The title is not misleading and the people who created Golf Story do not own the word Story. It is a fairly common word used across the Indie gaming landscape.
This comment kindof reeks of “whatbaoutism.”
Came out of lurking to say thanks for this, and also that Kotaku just full of bad takes lately. Definitely hasn’t gotten back to snuff since losing all their staff.

So....a solution? Sounds like you don’t want them to explore these cultural identifiers and the explorer-genre tropes. Should half the cast be fired and people you find “approved” be playing this game?
“This may seem like an overly cynical and bad-faith interpretation of what Critical Role is doing with this new campaign.”
