If we can make movies about it, why can’t we make games about it? Kotaku has already covered BF1's tasteful approach to the war extensively.

Have you played the single player? They did an amazing job.
The game is not mocking the war; the singleplayer campaign actually goes out of its way to note the horror and the scale of the conflict.
Mockery is entirely different from an interactive experience that might—if a player goes in with an honest desire--allow an individual to more accurately visualize an event that, for…
The point is not that “they are not talking about real WW I” (go-go middle school syntax). The point is that one of the most horrific periods in human history is being used as a springboard for mockery.
This would not be functionally dissimilar from making a “Humpty Dumpty” joke about the WTC—the only reason you’re…
I mean yeah it’s stupid, but I don’t know that it’s worse than that. Like, digitally playing at war is fine because its srs bsns, (Reverence about war in an entertainment product? Nice.) but making undank memes about a game digitally depicting war is bad? By the time you get to memes about a game about a specific…
I wouldn’t say that WWII is treated like it was fun, but the culture surrounding the Second World War is much different than the First. WWI was a disasterous dominoe effect and was much greater in scale and destructiveness than anything that had come before it. It was impersonal, nationalistic, mechanical, and…
Oddly enough the game itself seems very respectful of the magnitude of the events. The intro alone sort of set that tone, putting you into a no-win situation in a torn out hellscape. The game FEELS hopeless at times, and really conveys the pointlessness and savagery of the war in a way that impressed me. Perhaps a…
Show me another war that killed a million+ people in a single battle.
WW2 was terrible. But it was a war that was fought mostly akin to modern and historical practices. People fought and died. Aside from the reasons, it pretty much played out like any other major war (excluding WW1) throughout history.
or you can loosen up and quit being so whiny about it. its a stupid marketing campaign aimed at whats “hip” nothing new.... anyone should be able to know that they arent talking about real WWI.
While the game is completely fine and awesome to play some of the marketing for it has been a bit tasteless and has a lack of respect for the real WW1. When you base the game on a fictional modern day military shooter or in the future you can do whatever you want. But when it’s based on actual wars especially a dirty…
