I think the point their are trying to make is both, at the beginning of the internet people did think it was a fad but it changed everything. But also, the internet did a lot to “democratize” information and make it accessible to everyone. The idea with NFTs being that it is similarly not gatekeeped by any elite

> If anything, it speaks to the wholly successful brainwashing of an entire species by the copyright industry.

The problem with crypto isn’t that it’s merely “capitalism”, it’s that it’s capitalism with extra wasteful and useless steps”

If you think crypto doesn’t bring anything to the table then you think that capitalism doesn’t. So just say that! Why is it so hard to just state the underlying idea you disagree with. You don’t like capitalism. It has nothing to do with crypto specifically.

For me, a no one, this whole thing where we try to figure out if X copies from Y too much is just not how art is made. Everything is a copy and there is nothing original in the world.

Nope. Most people just criticize the new thing without recognizing the problem isn’t the new thing, its the capitalism thing. NFTs is just the fine arts market but for .gif. bitcoin is just digital gold/silver/etc.

You’re not paying attention then. This article is written to illicit schadenfreude not inform. Taking bitcoin as an example. right now it isn’t experiencing a “cratering” anything different from any other point in its history. If anything it has more to do with the world’s economic turbulence than anything it has to

I am one of those crypto dorks (sorta). Not a holder just an artist hoping that things can be better. But this article is actually more fairly reported than most on kotaku despite its obvious bias. This doesn’t seem like a particularly great debut and is showing that ethereum’s inability to scale needs to be addressed

They can because the person playing with that NFT owns the rights to it. It is theirs to take wherever they want. It’s not breaking copyright. It’s this modularity to individual assets, both technically and legally, that makes it possible.

This is what I don’t understand about the economics of it all. Why give up long term profit for short a lower amount of short term profit. As a company, isn’t a strong long term platform better for profit? Why is everything so focused on short term gains even when it hurts a business’s ability to be profitable long

They could, but with a lot of collaboration between companies. This creates a platform agnostic standard that can be used across games. Making it much more likely that it actually happens.

Fuck off.

Cross game portability.

Did I miss something or did valve change the way it’s teams are run. They are famous for having a flat hierarchy where employees can work on whatever they like and the decision for a project to go forward simply requires people to convince their coworkers that they should work with them on it. Has that switched at

You want purchasable cosmetics but not for the purchases to be recorded on a blockchain. It’s a rare take but ok.

If it means I get to play around in the world of jet set radio again with new content being added continually, maybe this is a better business model? I am not making a strong argument for whatever they might choose to do one way or another just saying that if there is a business model that allows for a game that

That’s weird because don’t they kiss in the demo? Did they change it between the demo and release?

Legally, they shouldn’t be able to do this. One of the most important reasons to even have the internet is as a world accessible library. No company should be able to take precedence over that need for humanity.

Capitalism says they do. The correctness of this is debatable but the reality that they, and we, are operating in a capitalist does mean that this is the relationship between fans and companies. Honestly it is really the only power consumers/most people actually have so taking even that away seems kinda ridiculous. If
