As a black creative who works in TV and Film, I agree, but I also have issues with Lena. I don’t have any problem with her calling them out because she’s right. She didn’t need to reach out to them. They know better.

Funding independent film isn’t philanthropy. It’s investment, risky and speculative, but investment none the less. Also, it’s a good opportunity since there is an untapped pool of talent. I can’t speak to what Will Smith is doing, but Denzel is bringing all of August Wilson’s plays to the big screen. So to say that they are doing enough is inaccurate.
