This is very interesting! I have found that certain types of sharpies also wash off well if you use a bit of detergent. Sharpies are by no means permanent markers....

@jupiterthunder: You've nailed it, JupiterThunder! Friday's open thread is something I cannot wait for. It is unfortunate that many of my questions remain unanswered :) but then, many questions don't have them, now do they....? :D

@Talthybius: not just one, pal! +100 for Google!

@jupiterthunder: DITTO! I use google a lot too, but try to find a few IT friends to help out when they are not busy. There is a lot of misleading crap on the internets, as well as gems :)

@cavalierex: I could not have said it better myself ;)

@Deprong Mori: Isn't Wikipedia now officially supporting the iPhone/Touch browsers?

Very nice.... but I would recommend using FastStone Capture's built in Color Picker instead of this one. For one thing, getting yet another dedicated program is irksome and something I don't want to do very often, unless it proves priceless—- FastStone Capture (older version is free) is portable and has good options

I don't know about paid hosting services, but Hostrator provides very good free hosting (that is, a free subdomain). The service offers 10GB of storage and 5GB of bandwith, plus FTP support. Their support tickets are excellent. I have found this site (that can go down unexpectedly, please note) very useful to

A warning guys: EffectMatrix is a PIECE OF CRAP! Don't use it. I have been tinkering with it for months now and it it horrible. You actually have to sit back and wait while it records it. it is more like a customized screen capture tool, as that is pretty much all it does. Take my advice: it isn't worth the time.

@versatileninja: I had bad experiences with CD+RW's and DVD+RW's. They just fail after I use them for five or six write/rewrites. They will never take over the JumpDrive (I have a 32GB flash drive that I got for free).

@skylive: I absolutely HATE OpenOffice's interface. They should change it to something like MS Ribbon (SnagIt and tons of other products do it without getting sued, so why should Open Office?). Also, there is a program that will export to Flash called iSpring Free. The end result has a tiny iSpring logo in it, but

This also reminds me of EyeOS, but this one has more features. Will look at it, but for what I do (sharing pictures and other files), SkiDrive (which lately integrated with Live Essentials) will do the trick!

@tali3sin: Yah. The free Evernote upload allowance SUCKS. I hate it. That's why when I reinstalled my computer, Evernote whent bye bye.

@CK: This will never replace Dropbox. EVER. The limits of Evernote's app is stupendous.

OK: I don't use this service. But the fact that they are moving from the desktop to a web exclusive interface is Bad. BAD BAD. TERRIBLY BAD. The desktop should not be replaced by the web! I love how I can access online applications via the desktop like with Adobe AIR programs, for example. I love how Dropbox allows me

@89macrunner: You hate Visio because it can export to PDF? Or are you saying that you hate it because it cannot export to PDF?

@pkrieger: There is an advantage for using Word 2007 for flowcharts that makes this app (which Lifehacker did say was stripped down!) frankly not worth the effort in my opinion.

@fly-by-night: Install is last season? The portable version crashes more, is slower, and some addons (I speak by experience) don't work on Firefox Portable. And I hate that splash screen! (Even though I can get rid of it....)

@SinisterBark: I think that is because the 1 billion lifehacker readers are bogging down Firefox's servers in their clamor to get the latest update :D
