Thank you for this. The whole "basic" business is mystifying to me, and your explanation makes a whole lot more sense than any of the other attempts at definition that I've read. In the context you describe, the word "basic" actually has a sort of logic, whereas the stuff in this article just leaves me going,

I agree with MizJenkins: "It's only your ethnocentrism and total ignorance of other cultures..."

Well I spent 3 years in the Peace Corps, as well as 1 year in Europe, and another in Japan but tell me again how I'm ignorant of other cultures.

No, I get tired of mainstream culture glossing over the fact that people my color exist and have personalities every bit as varied and interesting as White people's.

It's always nice when a self-proclaimed feminist site runs an article composed entirely of lazy, sexist stereotypes that reduce groups of women to a menagerie of lazy tropes.

I was looking at this thinking: "Oh, so 'basic' means 'white'?"

Seriously. This was just an article by white people about other white people because only white people exist. lmao.

Alright Black People basic bitch is officially dead. Meet me over at #blacktwitter in 2o min to discuss new alternatives, b/c thot is also on it's way out.

I don't understand this article and I'm glad I don't.

"Her hair usually looks pretty good despite nothing, absolutely nothing, about the state of Florida's weather being conducive to good hair. The only people capable of having good hair in the humidity of Florida are people who have spent years there. "
