I am a defense attorney and you are 100% correct. His attorney has an obligation to provide a full and professional defense. Anything else, like this social media garbage, is not required and reveals the person to be opportunistic garbage. My job is to defend my client against the legal charges in court. Not serve

Fuck this guy with a baseball bat fortified by broken glass shards soaked in ebola overnight.

Go figure, Cho is being an asshole.

Yes, you did and I’m not sure why you’re pretending otherwise.

And yet the one thing you chose to comment on (until this ridiculous diatribe here) was a cop’s honest and compassionate reaction to what had to be a completely horrific discovery. Excuse him for being human.

Out of this whole, entire story, this is what bothers you?

It also bothered me but it sounds like the deputy was very emotional about what he saw, so I’ll give it a pass.

I can’t speak for the whole ‘American system’ other than to say that’s it vastly different in different areas and your description is patently false in many areas and there’s really nothing I can say to convince you of anything if your mindset is already all-prosecutors-are-evil-and-nothing-will-convince-me-otherwise.

Thank you! A few of the commenters here seem to disagree with you, but I always thought i learned who is willing to dedicate themselves to change and who isn’t. :)

Except there was no ‘coercion.’ And no threat of ‘draconian punishment’ for contesting the charges. There just the possibility of actually getting a some time, which might not have happen or might not. The defendants have their own attorneys and often very good ones. And all of their attorneys knew exactly what I was

Actually when I was a prosecutor, I’d push for sentences like this all the time. The point is: he’ll agree the to deal. Rape cases are always tricky to prosecute. It gets them a lengthy sentence when they violate probation...which they do often.

Well, considering I’m Black and almost every review I’ve read was written by Black people, including two Black historians, that is not an issue for me.

Indeed; I’ve long criticzed Gawker’s tendancy to want to be taken seriously as a hard-hitting journalistic yet resorting to basically stirring shit up without any call to action or genuine empathy (which has cost them, dearly).

So when your parents got mad at you for leaving your dirty clothes on the floor, did they proceed to clean your room for you ? Did you get in trouble for leaving dirty dishes in the sink, and then watch them clean your dishes ? If you complain to your neighbor about their music keeping you up at night, is it your job

If you are going to complain about the lack of something then the least you can do is provide what is missing. Same goes for Brendan O’Connor.

THIS. I heard that NPR interview and it changed my mind about this photo. The cop who made the decision to post this was BROKEN UP over the state of addicts in his community. He repeatedly stated that they - as well as his police department - had no resources to help in the fight. He bemoaned the fact that this little

And they are probably understaffed on cops as well--after all, the only reason these guys were caught is that an off duty cop happened to see them nearly hit a school bus.

Are there any other jobs in the country that would require the amount of dedication you expect from police? Would you let someone literally try to kill you in order to determine if they have a real gun or not? What do you want the officers to do? Stand around waiting until one of them gets shot before they do anything?
