When we were kids, I played this game as my brother's "co-pilot" - he'd do all the flying and shooting, and I handled the shields and weapons. We did the same with Wing Commander.

This amused me.

Really both formulas are just estimates. Fine for looking at the general population, REALLY BAD for gauging your own fitness. As someone who heart rate trains for triathlons, I would be way off if I used this formula.
