But column shifters aren’t all that common anymore. If that lady had only ever driven a car with a center console shifter and then went to that, it’s understandable that she’d fumble as she tried to figure it out in a panic.

That’s actually a major reason. There’s been at least one case of people getting into sticky situations where being able to pop it into reverse would have saved them, but in their panic they couldn’t figure out the shifter and got creamed.

Despite Cap using Mjolnr quite a bit in the comics going back as far as 1988? Despite when Joss Whedon heavily implied that he totally could have lifted Mjolnr back in AoU, but chose not to?
