It’s more like he was lucky his first couple of years. The competition has caught up, and he doesn’t have the skillset to ride consistently with the pressure (neither does Lorenzo for that matter - he does well at the front, as we see here, but that’s about it).

Well it’s possible he was simply way shorter than the videos make him look, or the gal who he was with is very tall...at any rate “a search” yields varying results as well as numerous people saying he’s not as tall as stated. (I also don’t consider 5’10” to be “tall”.)
