How can a manufacturer fuck up known systems so badly? It’s not like they JUST invented the ICE or automatic gear box. How can you take a known mechanical item and fuck it up so completely?

Back when, you used to be able to test drive certain marques at the Boston Autoshow (when it was held at the now defunct Bayside Expo). At the SAAB booth you could sign up for a test drive of a 93 Viggen or a 95 Aero. I chose the Viggen. I was 24. Did I mention the test drive was sans SAAB representative?
